Hygrocybe ceracea (Wulf. ex Fr.) Kummer syn. Hygrophorus ceraceus (Wulf. ex Fr.) Fr. Wachsiger Saftling Butter Waxcap. Cap 1–2.5cm across, convex then flattened, deep yellow to pale orange, greasy, faintly striate at margin. Stem 25–50 x 2–4mm, dry, concolorous with cap, narrowing towards the base which is sometimes covered in fine white down. Flesh thin, yellow, becoming hollow in the stem. Taste and smell and distinctive. Gills adnate-decurrent and connected by veins, yellow with a paler edge. Spore print white. Spores ellipsoid 5.5–7 x 3um. Habitat in short grass in pastures and lawns. Season autumn. Occasional. Edible. (Never eat any mushroom until you are certain it is edible as many are poisonous and some are deadly poisonous.) Distribution, America and Europe.
