Stem 35–70 x 3–9mm, slightly thickened at base, concolorous with cap or paler, base covered in pinkish or ochraceous down; cortina orchraceous to golden-brown. Flesh deep purplish blood-red finally deep rusty-chestnut. Spore print rust. Spores elliptic, almost smooth, 6.5–8.5 x 4–5µ. Habitat deciduous woods. Season autumn. Rare. Edibility Suspect – avoid as many Cortinarius contain toxins. Found In Europe. Note many mycologists sink this species under C. sanguineus, the only difference appears to be that this species is found in broadleaved woods. |
